Handy little unit Sep 17, 2005
By Chunger This unit is pretty handy for setting up PA and mixing. The accuracy is ok with the built in mic.
Given the price, it's a great unit. The RT60 feature does not separate results into separate octave ranges which for me defeats the purpose of having RT60.
The Neutrik NTI AL-1 is much more precise and versatile, makes usable RT60 calculations, has resolution fine enough to analyze comb filtering but much pricier at ~$1100 with the calibrated mini mic. The Ivie IE-33 also seems a lot more full-featured at $1600
I wish this unit had more robust computer software to make higher resolution readings than 1/3 octave from the built-in mic through the USB computer interface.
The user interface is not as easy as the Neutrik unit, but the functions on this unit are pretty simple and the interface is fast enough. As the computer interface does not have any more features than the handheld device by itself, I will not end up using it very much so, the cheaper PAA2 would have been fine for my uses. I hope Phonic will be able to update its firmware/software in the future. Still, no regrets. I will find use for this unit's 31 band analyzer in every PA setup, live and studio recording.

Very Flexible feature rich Jan 15, 2011
By the Paul G. Great tool-the averaging feature is a great bonus, interface with the computer is quick and easy-instruction manual is a bit weak but the interface is not complex by any stretch so it's not that much of a problem. I have found it to be a great addition to my workbox and use it on almost every gig.

Great low price spectrum analyzer Apr 07, 2009
By C. A. Rawson I have used this unit several times now and have been pleased with the performance. It is not the end all but for the price it gives me the information I need for running live sound.
Battery Compartment Door Falls Off - No support Mar 30, 2012
By Duck995 I mainly want to use this for EQ setting and SPL metering. The battery door easily falls off. There is nothing missing and the unit is brand new. It looks to me like the case was just made out of cheap plastic. I am skeptical how well the case will hold together - especially living in a region that gets pretty cold in the winter.
The manual is very brief and lacks full explanation on how to use the analyzer. Storing values to set EQ is a disaster. After following the instructions, the values it recommends for setting eq is > +20 for all but 2 frequencies. I don't know if I am making a mistake or it there is something wrong with the unit. I did read another review from someone who had a defective unit. How do you increase a value that is "> 20?" how much greater? Since I have nothing to compare it to, I don't know if the unit is bad or not.
Update: I used Phonic's contact form to complain about the door. They have not answered me, however they did ask me to go to their website and rate my customer experience.
I did find a phone number for repair service and spoke to someone there. He said these are made in China and no doubt the contact form generated an auto response prompting their request that I rate their service. I also learned from the repair center that there is no tech support available for this product. So, if it works right and you can figure it out, good for you. If not, too bad.
I have lowered my rating of this product from a 3 to a 1. All this analyzer has done for me is waste a lot of my time and make me feel frustrated.
Great Product: PAA3 Mar 31, 2011
By DAN Great product and well represented. I use it for live sound setup and monitering. The different frequencys match those of the 31-band equalizer. Easy to see which frequency was hot. I has many more features on than I understand at this point. It will definently be always used in setting up my sound system. It has taken away a lot of the guessing of what frequency is feeding back. I like the ability to carry this hand-held unit around without it being noticed by a of people.
The innerface for the computer was ok. I thought the design wasn't that great in the display on the computer. Overall a great tool.
